Sioux Falls, SD -- May 26, 2004 -- The Prather Ranch, located in Siskiyou and Shasta Counties, was recently honored as a Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) 2004 Commercial Producer Nominee at their annual meeting in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The ranch will be added to the Federation's "Role of Excellence".  The Federation recognized eleven ranches throughout the United States with this prestigious honor.

As a means to standardize programs and methodology and to create greater awareness, acceptance and usage of beef cattle performance concepts, the Beef Improvement Federation was formed.  The organization's three leaf clover logo would come to represent Industry, Extension and Research.  Over 68 years ago, the pioneers of the performance beef cattle movement began the research which led to the use of objectives for measurements for evaluating beef cattle.  Selection based on objective measures has withstood the test of time and continues to undergo scrutiny by researchers, organizations and beef cattle producers.

The Prather Ranch is a 15,000 acre vertically integrated cattle business that operates in Northeastern California.  The ranch produces branded natural and certified organic beef products that are sold in northern California and southern Oregon.  The ranch includes a cattle and farming operation, complete with finishing yard, a state-of-the-art USDA inspected harvest facility and retail outlets.  Prather Ranch serves as an example of a self-sustaining agricultural operation that promotes strong environmental philosophies, holistic management practices and the humane treatment of livestock.
