The closed herds graze on pastures that are owned and/or leased by the ranch.
These pastures were carefully chosen to be located in isolated areas at the headwaters of
streams. This precaution minimizes potential contact with other cattle and cattle-borne
pathogens which may spread disease.
Additionally, the ranch's 3,000 acre farm grows organic hay and grain for supplemental
feed. This food source has been raised without synthetic herbicides or pesticides for a
minimum of three years. The water source for these crops comes from irrigation; there are deep
irrigation wells filled with pure mountain stream water and natural rainfall.
The water sources are routinely tested for purity and test results
are recorded along with other data regarding crop production inputs.
